DESCRIPTION:Why it’s important:\nHandwashing is a foundational health and independence skill in kindergarten. Children are expected to wash their hands multiple times a day without direct assistance. Proper handwashing reduces the spread of illness in classrooms and helps children stay healthy and present for learning. Beyond hygiene\, this skill also builds routine-following\, sequencing (first soap\, then scrub\, then rinse)\, and independence. \nHow to do it:\nTurn handwashing into a sensory and playful experience. Tell your child the soap creates “germ-fighting bubbles” and challenge them to cover every part of their hands. Model each step slowly: wet hands\, add soap\, scrub palms\, backs\, between fingers\, thumbs\, and nails. Sing a song together to ensure they scrub for at least 20 seconds. After rinsing\, show how to dry hands completely. Children learn by exploration\, so outdoor spaces must be designed in such a way that children can test their abilities in a challenging yet safe environment. Attend this learning event for the 4-hour Playground Safety course approved by the NC DCDEE and address playground safety hazards\, playground supervision\, maintenance and general upkeep of the outdoor learning environment\, and age and developmentally appropriate playground materials and equipment. \n \nThis is a virtual -live\, instructor led version of the 4 hour Playground Safety course that is approved by the NC DCDEE. \n \nParticipants will attend 3 hours online and complete 1 hour of assignments on their own time that are submitted to the instructors within one week following the course in order to receive the 4 CHC.
