Understanding School Expectations

May 22

Why it’s important:
Kindergarten classrooms have clear expectations for behavior, routines, and participation. When children understand what is expected of them, they feel more confident and are better able to follow directions and succeed in a structured environment.

How to do it:
Talk with your child about what school might look like—listening to the teacher, raising a hand, taking turns, and being kind to others. You can role-play being in a classroom and act out expected behaviors in a fun and supportive way.

What to look for:

  • Shows understanding of basic school rules
  • Can describe appropriate behavior
  • Begins to apply expectations during play
