One on One Support

for Families

Parents as

Teachers

Being a parent is hard work.

During their first few years, children learn more and at a faster pace than at any other time in life. Your baby was born to learn and, as a parent, you are your child’s first and most important teacher! Parents as Teachers comes alongside to support parents as they shape their children’s future through positive, enriching experiences in early childhood.

Parents as Teachers (PAT) helps you understand child development and connects you to the resources you need to make the best choices for your family. Parents as Teachers offers free personal visits customized for the needs of your family. Together on each visit, we will:

  • Look at your child’s development and talk about the parenting challenges you face right now.
  • Think about family dynamics impacting your child’s development, your parenting values and decisions.
  • Build strong protective factors to keep you, your child and your family healthy, strong and resilient.

Why Parents as Teachers? As a parent, you’ll feel more involved in your child’s education, more connected to your child, and more confident in your role as a parent. Your child will see the benefits, as well – Parents as Teachers children are healthy, safe and ready to learn:

  • They’re healthier.
  • They score higher on kindergarten readiness tests.

    Parenting Program

Powered by the Parents as Teachers Curriculum

Our Adolescent Parenting Program (APP) is a free home visiting program that helps support teen parents between the ages of 13-19 by continuing their education, coaching them on child development and supporting them throughout their parenting journey. We are here to help teen parents navigate the challenges of being parents. We can serve teens from the first pregnancy test until their child turns 5 years old.  Our services include:

    • Personal visits: Certified parent educator supports the teens in their parenting journey and provides information regarding their child’s development, and topics such as nutrition, attachment, emotion/social wellbeing, etc. Also, we support their family wellbeing through increasing parent interaction and working on their selfcare, mental health, and establishing and meeting their personal goals.
    • Group connections: Get to know other parents and their families through social gatherings.
    • Child screening: Developmental screening and overview of child’s health, further identifying potential developmental delays.
    • Connection to resources: Connection to community resources such as helping set up childcare, prenatal care, and referrals to additional services.
