Sit & Focus Practice

July 1

Why it’s important:
In kindergarten, children are expected to sit and participate during group lessons, circle time, and independent work. Building the ability to sit and focus for longer periods helps children engage in learning and follow along with classroom instruction.

How to do it:
Set up a short activity such as coloring, puzzles, or listening to a story. Start with about 10 minutes and gradually increase the time. Stay nearby to support, but encourage your child to remain engaged in the activity.

What to look for:

  • Stays seated for the duration of the activity
  • Remains engaged with minimal redirection
  • Builds stamina over time
